HI all,
i own a pair of MFB541, and i would to upgrade original tweeter (ad0161/t8), with a modern tweeter.
I guess if someone of MFB enthusiasts have done so succesfully.
My question is, basically, would be sufficient adapt/project the passive filter at amp output, or this operation need a change of passive components on the electronic board? Or both?
What make/model of modern tweeters could be used?
Thanks in advance, regards

Paolo

Hi,

You should not do that. Leave the speakers in original condition.

Thanks for the reply...but i really miss something on these lovely speakers: medium frequencies. Human voices sounds so light and distant...i think that the original tweeter is the culprit

My guess is that they need service! After that they sound like new again. The midrange is definitely NOT a problem for these MFB's when the settings are correct and the electrical components are all ok.

Hello,

I know this is a late reaction  , however :
You are right the mid-bass is missing - my comparison is with Harbeth P3ESR (a quality bookshelf, english sound)

I replaced the tweeter AD0140 with the AD0163 (fabric dome, bigger magnet, softer tone)
- Changed some electronics for the more neutral AD0163, following instructions on the forum.
- Adapted the passive filter :
Woofer : 0.8mH serial, 18µF parallel, AD7066MFB4
Tweeter : 2.7 ohm serial, 8.2µF serial, 0.6µH parallel, 10 ohms parallel, AD0163T8

The mid bass is still light but acceptable, the sound is softer and still clear and dynamic
I also refreshed the electronics inside (capacitors, resistors, bypass...).

Have fun
Benoit

Hi Benoit,
yes it's late: 541 has gone and now I own a pair of 544 with AD0211 e AD0163, with all the last modifications as per Service Bulletin, plus others token from this precious forum. It's another sound, more complete and full.
:-)

Cheers
Paolo

Yes, the difference with a 541 and a 544 with the latest drivers 0211, 0163 and the necessary modifications is rather big.
But also the amp is more powerfull. Enjoy your 544 MFBs!
